On this site, overlooking timtumili minanya [Derwent River], we begin this journey by paying respect to the original owners of this land.
For thousands of years the muwinina and nunini people lived with and cared for this Country. The lightly wooded foothills of kriwalayti [Mount Nelson] and the shores of kriwa [little Sandy Bay] provided a rich environment for native flora and fauna and an abundant food supply for the First Nations people of the South East language group.
We honour the memory of these ancestors and give thanks for their care of this place.
We acknowledge all First Nations people of lutruwita [Tasmania], descended from nine nations, whose sovereignty over these lands was never given up.
We stand for a future that profoundly respects and acknowledges First Nations perspectives, culture, language and history, and commit to a continued effort to fight for justice and rights, paving the way for a strong, shared future.
